Housekeeping: 

- I'd like to take a moment to express my deepest condolences for our families from the Iranian community; if there is any possible silver lining, it comes from a discussion today where your children were able to put to words their outrage, sadness, confusion, and strongest of all - their desire to make a change.  I'm proud to be the teacher who gets to see such a beautiful demonstration of the very best of humanity.
For those who wish to participate in tonight's community vigil, here are the details:

 Please note this is an outdoor event. If you are attending, please dress for the weather, including proper footwear.

 - Grade 8: Pink Registration/Transfer form due Friday, January 24th.  If your child has lost theirs, you can pick one up at Aurora High or G.W. Williams.

English:
- Sign book talk rubrics (they came  home today).

- 2nd reading response is due next Thursday at Midnight.  The new template is posted on the GC.  You may NOT do the book talk book for this one.  It has to be for the NEW book you are currently reading.  PARENTS/GUARDIANS: make sure your child is reading at least 20-30 minutes every night!   I will be the heavy and say they need to cut down on screen time!

Math:

-  Last week's algebra test is coming home tonight.  Please sign it and return it by this Thursday.

History:

- Grade 8: Refresh your notes about Residential schools.

- Grade 7: Practice telling the story of the causes of the war of 1812

French:

Science:

-  Experiment grade 7 and 8 due Thursday (viscosity, density, and solutions)

Health/Phys-Ed:

- Practice reading your PSA aloud.  Time it to ensure it is under 20 seconds.  Finally, make sure you add a call to action. 

Art: 

- Be done the trading card in three weeks.


MUSIC:

DRAMA: 

- Present drama scripts this Friday.  Make sure it's memorized!

Housekeeping :  - Your child's diagnostic results came home in a SEALED envelope.  Please read it over, sign the tear-away portion, and return it to me.  If I have any serious concerns I will be contacting you to set up a quick meeting.  - Next week (Thursday) is "Meet the Creature"/"Meet the Teacher" night.  I will be in my class around 5:30 if you would like to come up and chat.  This is not time to discuss your child's individual progress (save that for the veggies aisle of No Frills!).  This evening is to go over the plans for the year, discuss how I evaluate, and ensure everyone is on the same page. - Cell phones...the lunchtime supervisor has notified me that she has seen (on many occasions) the grade 8s in my class on their phones during lunch.  This is my final warning: NO cell phones except for when we are using them for classroom purposes (which is RARE and is under my supervision).  Parents/Guardians, please have a discussion...
